John Boehner is an honorable man, going into negotiations with the administration assuming that both parties are negotiating in good faith so that they will arrive at a fair outcome. Obama as we now know, views himself in an imperial President, with no regard for the Constitution. He believes he has a mandate from the American people - a mandate received from registering mentally challenged people, and disciples voting three or four times. The real problem with Boehner is that he doesn't understand this, having served in the House for many years and surviving political battles, he is not used to stepping outside this cocoon.
In order to build up his base and consolidate power behind his speakership, he tries to force ideological conservatives to his will, thus splitting the Party in two - conservatives and 'apparatchiks'. Unfortunately for the Republican Party, the apparatchiks outnumber those with any ideology. The Republicans therefore look like a Party flopping around, struggling for meaning. Obama has a clear direction, destroy the GOP and turn this country into a fascist country with himself as its ruler.
The Republicans are now the opposition party, it is their duty to propose and pass legislation, at least in the House, that supports their principles. Principles such as lowering taxes, less business regulation, and pro-capitalism, except that they have no clear ideology. Trying to stay in office is no longer going to cut it, we are now fighting for our future. Boehner and company have to decide what side they are on.
